I got this on Sunday and started playing it Yesterday, boy was I disappointed, its like they didn't really put any effort into converting this title smoothly, there are some sound effect problems, you can't scroll through text fast, and worst is the controls....man, such messed up controls, its almost as if they ported this over without giving one thought to the controller layout for the Gamecube verse the N64. Well this was a "free game", but never the less, I would expect a company like Nintendo to do a better job with this port.

Yeah, I find it funny with ports. They come from an inferior machine compared to the one its being ported too, but then graphical errors, problems with sound, framerate troubles and a whole mess of other errors occured that didn't occur in the first.

I've noticed this in Grandia 2, (dreamcast to ps2) Final Fantasy 6, (Super Nintendo to PSX, you think it would be faster huh, nope, not the case, loads are horrible in that game) and I was grossly dissapointed with the cinema scenes for Final Fantasy 4. It is horribly obvious that they didn't spend much time with the CG for the begining of that game.

So, yeah, ports have suffered alot in the past, and apparently, it is still happening. I guess its because they know that people will buy it because it was a popular game from before.

I think it's a rule, that when you port, you CANNOT change any of the mistakes the orginal had :sweatdrop

Seriously, anyone play the Sonic Collection for the Gamecube? The stinkin' thing still get's stuck and goes in slow motion while playing 2players (Sonic 2) and the same happens throughout various titles on the game. Anyways, it's law, so don't buy a port if you can't take it :p

I just wanted to update what I said earlier about this game.....its even worse than I thought. The targeting system here is more clucky than the N64 vers., and even though the graphics look sharper....there is a horrible framerate problem, seems like anytime your running around or fighting something, the video gets really choppy. Another problem is that this game will freeze sometimes forcing you to reset the game an go back to your save point, and the saves now take much longer. Wow, Nintendo really dumped a pile of **** into the laps of its gamers this time around....

Which is exactly why I laughed when I heard they were porting Ocarina of Time to GC. They never try on ports when they make you pay for them, I can only imagine what they would do to it if its free. They really don't care because they know people will get the game no matter what the problems because everyone loved the game. The only port that had only slight problems was the Chrono Trigger one for PSX. That was the only one I played through and didn't think "ARG, what the hell, the SNES version went faster than this ****!"

I'm currently playing the FF VI port and its pretty awful the framerate and load problems in that game. Like, when you do Sabin's Fire Dance, the fire Sabin's move all slow and the sound goes as fast as it normally does so the sound clip for that move ends like 10 seconds before the move ever does. It does the same thing for the Meteor spell, where the sound ends 10 seconds before the move does and you have to sit there and wait for it to end. If I didn't like the game so much, I wouldn't sit here for it but, that's just me.

Actually, my roommate bought chronicles and when I played Chrono Trigger, I noticed it was plagued with load times. A load period to get to your menu (YOUR MENU! COME ON!!), a load time for boss encounters, entering buildings, world map and area, etc etc....I couldn't play this after 30 minutes and just went back to playing the rom (by the way, they didn't do anything to improve the graphics on this either, they just slapped in on with some really short anime cut scenes.

Yeah, Chrono Trigger is as slow as hell.  I was stuck at one boss for a few days because I couldn't use my items to heal, so my party kept dieing...  Then I realized the problem.  The items menu was taking two minutes to load.  FFIV works perfectly (As far as I can tell.) however.

Later.

Yeah, your right with that menu thing, I remember that, but I still think the FF VI remake was pretty bad compared to Chrono Trigger. Yeah, I think I already mentioned the horrible FMV beginning sequence for FF IV, it seemed very quickly put together and like they didn't care to make it look good.

Let's face it, remakes of our classic games will always be better on the inferior system then the ultra super fast and powerful system for some strange reason. Wierd how that works out huh, I think it would be funny to see a pong remake go slower then it already did for the Atari.

well...stop complaining man. i havent got it yet, so i dont know for sure. but if you were a smart person, you would have ordered the wind waker and gotten OoT free...

ME: free...
megajo53: FREE, you mean without cost? you mean i dont have to spend any of my extra money to pay for it?
ME: yep pretty much
megajo53: then maybe i should stop my complaining and thank Nintendo for being so nice as to remake one of the greatest games of all time and putting it on the GCN...either that or i will just throw my new FREE disc on the floor, curse at it...and think no more of it...

you should be grateful man that they have made it for the GCN...and if you arent then stop complaining and go back to your N64

Ok, whenever you guys want to stop bashing a free game like a bunch of pathetic low-lives, I may begin to believe some of you actually possess any bit of sanity.  But until then, I'll just clear some things up.

there are some sound effect problems

What game doesn't?

you can't scroll through text fast

I must have the unmarked Really, Really Special Edition version, then.  The skip function works fine on mine.

and worst is the controls....man, such messed up controls, its almost as if they ported this over without giving one thought to the controller layout for the Gamecube verse the N64

I didn't have a problem with it at all, and I was just playing the entire game on the N64 just a few months ago, but if you have a problem with it, I suggest you buy or build yourself an N64-pad-to-GC converter.  Oh wait, that would cost you money, and you don't want that.  Rather, you'd just rant about a free game.

i think it's called laziness..

Now you're just biting the hand that feeds you.

Seriously, anyone play the Sonic Collection for the Gamecube? The stinkin' thing still get's stuck and goes in slow motion while playing 2players (Sonic 2) and the same happens throughout various titles on the game.

That's because the slow-downs were coded into the games to begin with so they wouldn't stress the Genesis' hardware.  Sonic Collection aims for a "perfect emulation," meaning you get -everything- from the original game, good or bad.

The targeting system here is more clucky than the N64 vers.,

Again, that's simply based on your preference.  I don't really have a problem with the new "L Targetting" system.

there is a horrible framerate problem, seems like anytime your running around or fighting something, the video gets really choppy.

Another example of using the code straight from the cartridge.

Another problem is that this game will freeze sometimes forcing you to reset the game an go back to your save point

That's not a problem with Nintendo.  That's a problem with your own freaking disc and/or console.  I've been playing this game for the past three days straight and have yet to run into a problem with freezing.

and the saves now take much longer

That's because the game went from saving on it's own built-in cartridge RAM to saving on an external memory card.  Switching mediums _will_ have negative effects.  Do you have any ideas how to improve that?

man, people are pretty harsh, here nintendo goes and does something pretty amazing in the video game business, buy giving away free games, and people have the nerve to rant how horrible they are, or that nintendos lazy?! LAZY?!  what the hells lazy about porting a game over to a new system all for the low price of nothing? i think some people just need to find any reason to complain sometimes...
