i think it has something to do with the centrifugel(sp) force produced when he lets go of the gutter-originally, he simply would get out at the end of the turn, but later on he seems to get out somewhere right before the turn

in my head it kinda seems like he is being slingshot by gravity towards the road... just what i've imagined when i thought about this is all...

I think the exit oriented gutter run is that you would go into a turn, right when the car starts to understeer, you drop the wheel in the gutter.  when you enter the corner braking, you would over steer, but when u travel @ full troddle, it'll understeer.  if done...you'll over steer, and right before understeer begun, u already dropped it in2 the gutter...i'm not totally sure...but i think this would make the best sense to me...

though this is pointless on a FF car...u can only really do this in an FF...

I think the exit version is more about scraping off speed at the exit of the turn.  With the entry one, the 86 is using the gutter to avoid the need to turn much (basicly stomp on the gas, let the cetrifical force due the work until the exit).  The exit one is more about cary too much speed into the turn, to the point that he'd be in the guard rail otherwise, but use the gutter as a drag-chute to avoid a repair bill

Note:  Don't try this at home kids, or if you do, don't blame me Wink
