I ususally rip my mp3s in 192kbps, but recently Ive been looking to move into higher possibly variable bit-rates.

Any good programs you'd suggest? Just something simple and easy to configure.

Also is there anything that can convert m4a files into standard mp3s?

I use iTunes to rip.

also iTunes converts from m4a to mp3.

don't know your methods for acquiring programs, but i really like Easy CDDA Extractor, it pretty much does it all.

It's free.

It's never crashed on me.

It rips, it burns, it converts.

If you have your id3 tags correct, its easy to search on them.

The only problem I had with iTunes was when they first released 7 ... I couldn't play a game and have iTunes running or iTunes would stutter. But since they patched it I haven't had any problems.

It's actually a pretty nice piece of software.

plus it sucks my donkeys balls, so I don't have to do it myself anymore.

cdda extractor is nice, it's what I used before.

Yeah, it is a bit of a hog, it takes about 50megs of resources. but firefox is usually more of a hog than iTunes is for me.

yeah i love it because i like high quality mp3s, but flac is a bit unnecessary.  if i can only find something in flac, into the extractor it goes Smiley
