Absolute idiot me went a year without cleaning my G5's LCD screen. When I did, using a damp microcloth, I was left with bad streaks. ;( This isn't the best pix, but:

I can't get the streaks off now. I tried a damp cloth and Monster iClean, and neither worked. (The more central streak drives me nuts when working in Photoshop; the others I don't care about as much.)

I also tried using Apple's chat support, and got nowhere ... except ended up with a stuck red pixel in a good part of the screen. (He had me do a bunch of resets on things like RVRAM and PRAM, which I thought was daffy, but he wanted me to do them ...  and kaboom ... suddenly, I had a stuck pixel. :angry)

I'll probably end up dealing with the last resort: an "Apple Genius" (:rolleyes) in the flesh. But I figured before that likely fiasco I'd ask if anybody here has had a similar problem and found a solution.

I'm really hoping I haven't ruined my screen.

sounds like you didn't wait for the screen to cool down before you cleaned it.

don't know how reliable this is, but they recommend vinegar and water.

I've never had that problem before, so no first hand experience.

They have kits for cleaning lcds, they have a spray, a soft cloth with a handle.  I recommend using that.  your tv looks like you actually smudged the Liquid Crystals behind the screen.

Thanks for the posts.

RE not waiting for the screen to cool down: I don't think I did wait.

That's one of those things I've wondered about ... whether the screen was warm, and whether that would've made any difference. Cleaning the screen was an impulsive move ... I was going to be shutting down the computer for a few weeks and figured, what the hell. Now I can't remember if it had cooled down; but I know I didn't know that would matter. Duh. Sad  If the screen was warm, does that mean the streaks are now one with the screen in an unholy union of grossness?

RE cleaning kits: I did get a monster iclean kit. It seems like nice stuff, but didn't do anything for the streaks.

RE smudged LCs. :eek Is there any way I can tell if I did smudge the liquid crystals? (I didn't even know that was possible to do ....... it sounds ....... scary.) Would doing that take a real lot of pressure? Is there any way to ... um ... unsmudge them?
