Scary, scary stuff ...

Quote

MIAMI, Florida (AP) -- U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris told a religious journal that separation of church and state is "a lie" and God and the nation's founding fathers did not intend the country be "a nation of secular laws."

The Republican candidate for U.S. Senate also said that if Christians are not elected, politicians will "legislate sin," including abortion and *** marriage.

Harris made the comments -- which she clarified Saturday -- in the Florida Baptist Witness, the weekly journal of the Florida Baptist State Convention, which interviewed political candidates and asked them about religion and their positions on issues.

Separation of church and state is "a lie we have been told," Harris said in the interview, published Thursday, saying separating religion and politics is "wrong because God is the one who chooses our rulers."

Electing non-Christians a 'legislative sin'
"If you're not electing Christians, then in essence you are going to legislate sin," Harris said.

Her comments drew criticism, including some from fellow Republicans who called them offensive and not representative of the party.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Florida, who is Jewish, told the Orlando Sentinel that she was "disgusted" by the comments.

Harris' campaign released a statement Saturday saying she had been "speaking to a Christian audience, addressing a common misperception that people of faith should not be actively involved in government."

The comments reflected "her deep grounding in Judeo-Christian values," the statement said, adding that Harris had previously supported pro-Israel legislation and legislation recognizing the Holocaust.

Harris' opponents in the GOP primary also gave interviews to the Florida Baptist Witness but made more general statements on their faith.

Harris, 49, faced widespread criticism for her role overseeing the 2000 presidential recount as Florida's secretary of state.

State GOP leaders -- including Gov. Jeb Bush -- don't think she can win against Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson in November. Fundraising has lagged, frustrated campaign workers have defected in droves and the issues have been overshadowed by news of her dealings with a corrupt defense contractor who gave her $32,000 in illegal campaign contributions.

Ridiculous.

Although these people are still few and far between.  I wouldn't be afraid of them yet, I just shake my head at them and go on.

They are scary also ... but I wasn't trying to compare it to Terrorists or anything. It was ridiculous, and obviously not the norm, I just found it funny, and didn't want to start a war on General heh.

You should know me better than that Shin. I think both sides of the fence are nutty. Wink

Wasn't "separation of church and State" just a phrase from a private letter? I wonder how it got to be gospel for the ACLU....

Um... Actually, yes, these people scare me a hell of a lot more than Islamic, or even neo-Nazi's like Timothy McVeigh.

From Wiki's entry:

Quote
"Reconstructionism is a theology that argues that only Christian men should rule civil society. It has a softer related theology called dominionism. ... 'Dominionism' in general threatens the Church/State separation so vital to our democracy as a pluralist society. Groups such as the Christian Coalition really have adopted many of the tenets of Dominionism, and some key Christian right leaders are close to Reconstructionism, which thinks that the U.S. Constitution is a sub-do***ent overruled by Old Testament Biblical Laws."

According to Wiki the Christian Coalition claims to have 1,200,000 members but People For the American Way say other data suggests it is 300,000-400,000. That 300,000 - 400,000 people in one group of several that form a hard core, analagous to the hard core of the fascists in Germany... in one of the most religious industrialized countries in the world. The U.S. placed second to last (Between Cyprus and Turkey) in a list of countries based on belief in evolution. The following two quotes give some evidence of the reach these people already have into the highest levels of U.S. government:

Quote
What may be the most telling part of Blake's article are the words from Frank Wright, president of the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB). "We don't just tell them what news it," she quotes Wright. "We tell them what it means. And that's appealing to people, especially in moments of cultural instability."

The NRB appears to have amazing access to the White House. Blake tells us that not long after the 2000 election NRB brass were invited to the White House for a meeting with President Bush and John Ashcroft, then-U.S. attorney general. Since then, there have been regular meetings and monthly conference calls, according to CJR, some attended by the president. Very few enjoy such direct access to the country's highest office.

Quote
Gary DeMar stated hefd execute ***s only if they were caught indulging in sodomy, but others envision sinners in line for the death penalty would include women who commit adultery or lie about their virginity, blasphemers, witches, children who strike their parents, and *** men. Thus, DeMar is considered somewhat of a liberal in this extreme authoritarian movement.

Gary DeMar is not a fringe Christian. He is in the same realm with Mainstream Extremist Christian leaders such as Televangelist Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell. DeMar is leader of the Restore America Rally, head of American Vision and one of the most prolific publishers of the movement.

Katherine Yurika writes in The YurikaReport.com "The Despoiling of America"[2] gAs Antonin Scalia, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court explains, the Bible teaches and Christians believe e...that Government.....derives its moral authority from God. Government is the eminister of Godf with powers to erevenge,f to eexecute wrath,f including even wrath by the sword...fh

And then weigh in the fact that at least the Muslim extremists wouldn't give a sh*t about bombing the U.S. if the U.S. would get the hell out of their countries and leave them alone - the same can't be said for the Christian extremists who believe in world domination - Pat Robertson (of the Christian Coalition) says:

Quote
"When I said during my presidential bid that I would only bring Christians and Jews into the government, I hit a firestorm. `What do you mean?' the media challenged me. `You're not going to bring atheists into the government? How dare you maintain that those who believe in the Judeo-Christian values are better qualified to govern America than Hindus and Muslims?' My simple answer is, `Yes, they are.'"
-from Pat Robertson's "The New World Order," page 218.

I think these two quotes from Dubya speak for themselves, especially in light of the article Derillion posted and previous quotes:

Quote
"We will export death and violence to the four corners of the earth in defense of this great nation." -- Quoted in "Bush at War" by Bob Woodward. [9] (http://www.econcrisis.homestead.com/CurrentEvents_NukeArmagTrigger.html)

"God told me to strike at al Qaida and I struck them, and then he instructed me to strike at Saddam Hussein, which I did, and now I am determined to solve the problem in the Middle East. If you help me I will act, and if not, the elections will come and I will have to focus on them." -- According to Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas [10] (http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/pages/ShArt.jhtml?itemNo=310788&contrassID=2&subContrassID=1&sbSubContrassID=0&listSrc=Y)
