I'm not an idiot, you know. But the name of this thread is "Kma's guide to handy free programs!", and my question was "Which is the best free program for FTP?" (emphasis added).

Most of the programs on my list are here, and I generally agree with his/her assessments.

Nice Read.

Except the best free firefox protection extension - NoScript.

Also I just got a half gig thumb drive and put a portable winamp on it.  IT can be found here, along with a portable gimp.

For the 4chan browsers with firefox I suggest you get Linky and Download Them All!

Download them all is usefull because you can pretty much download all images in one page (or post) and you can set which folder for it to go to.  Once you've done it you can click "turbo dTa" which uses the configuration of the last download so you don't have to keep selecting.  Perfect for 4chan or whatever chan (though I think some of the japanese pages aren't actual picture links but htmls with pictures embedded, don't know how to bypass that.

Linky isn't too usefull, it just opens many links you select, or on an entire page, but it has two neat functions, one is "Open image links in tabs" which lets say you have a 4chan post open, selecting that option will take all the images from the links and put them in a single tab, so you can sift through them, great for doujin posts.  The "Open all images in one tabs" is less useful since it just opens whatever image is present on that page (in the sense of chan it would be the thumbnails), but you may encounter some sites, mainly japanese ones that put a lot of the original pictures on one page.

Hmmmm...lets see my personal favorites in the freeware
department are as follows:

for ripping dvds (making back-ups of ones you own):

dvd decrypter(no longer around...sorry)
dvdfab decrypter http://www.dvdidle.com

for ipod/psp/pmp/xbox360:these work very well can even make customized files
 http://www.videora.com

for mounting disc images and the combo of bin+cue and a few others:

daemon tools(sorry don't know the url)

for torrents:

utorrent(don't know the url)
bit-tornado(don't know the url)
maketorrent (for making torrents)(no once again nope don't know)

now I do use other programs but like most of the people out there
though we "think" there "free" they are NOT ... you know what I mean....
hope these few help....

OOPPSS....sorry forgot my most most favorite program
it makes those cute windowsiters(mascots)
you get that here and it IS free  http://www.otakuworld.com
but to download mascots from the site ...you need to join ..or make them yourself(lots more fun)(made over 100...even did "hellsing")
