Why doesn't Sony and Microsoft purchase the rights to old console games to be downloaded to their Xbox 360's or PS3's. I'm pretty sure our current consoles supercede specifications to run older console games. The original developers would still get credit, right? Wouldn't it be great to play Wild Arms on the Xbox 360, playing SEGA Saturn games on the PS3. I know it's been done already to some games, but I'm tired of all these Sonic Adventure games already.

I'm pretty sure it is a legal and company issue.

Legal because I don't think you can straight port anything that was on another console because they own some rights to that game, I think, I'm just guessing really.

Company because, face it, what company really wants to spend the time and money dedicating an entire team to just rehash old games for the newer consoles when they can make, you know, new games instead. Plus, how much money could they really get through this tactic. Plus, how old are we talking about here? Are we thinking of old NES games because again, it would seem like a waste of time for developers seeing as everyone and there mom knows how to get a ROM for those on a PC.

You should check out the markteplace because there are quite a few old console games for the 360/ps3.  All I konw of the legal issues is that when a company holds the rights to a certain game it lasts for a decade or two whether the developers like it or not.  Until those contracts run up there won't be any leasing out of their IPs without the rights holder's consent.

I'm thinking that nintendo really has a stake in the rights of these games as many of them come out on virtual console.  I think many rightsholders see it as making sense because nintendo represents the golden age of gaming.

Also, Surprise, do you know how hard it is to type a reply and stay focused with that gif in your sig?  YOU DON'T!

I would rather see maybe just as far back as PS1,Sega Saturn, Dreamcast . I know XBOX Live has xbox originals and other games such as Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and i got some old SEGA roms. Since there are no more games being developed for these consoles, i wouldnt mind playing some of these games. I had fun play jet set radio and space channel 5 for the dreamcast.im pretty sure with the way games are developed now rehashing old discs wont be so hard and time consuming.
